According to the American Cancer Society, two-thirds of all cancers can be prevented though lifestyle changes. So take control of your life today by taking these seven simple steps.
- Stop Using Tobacco: Smoking accounts for at least 30 percent of cancer deaths.
- Stay Thin: Being overweight or obese contributes to 14 to 20 percent of cancer deaths.
- Exercise Regularly: Shed those extra pounds by exercising 30 minutes a day at least five days a week.
- Eat Smart: Avoid eating too much red meat. Choose lean cuts and smaller portions. Try to eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables each day.
- Stay Safe: in the Sun Unprotected exposure to the sun is by far the most common cause of skin cancer.
- Drink in Moderation: The use of alcohol has been linked to cancers of the mouth, pharynx, larynx, esophagus, liver and breast.
- Get Screened: Talk to your doctor about scheduling regular cancer screening tests for colon, prostate, breast and cervical cancers.
