Live It Out

The earlier breast cancer can be detected, the greater the chance for survival. So follow these screening guidelines from the American Cancer Society. You owe it to your family – and to yourself.

A yearly mammogram starting at age 40 and continuing as long as the woman is in good health.

A clinical breast exam every year for women over 40 and every three years for women in their 20s and 30s.

A few women who are at high risk (about 2 percent of women in the U.S.) should be screened with an MRI as well as a mammogram. Talk with your doctor to see if you may need additional testing.

In addition, a breast self-exam is an option for women starting in their 20s. Report any changes in the look and feel of your breast immediately to your doctor or healthcare provider.
