Wound Care 101: Remember the 30-day Rule

Do you or a loved one have a wound that’s not healing? If you do, it’s time to get serious about seeking medical help.

Every year about 6.5 million Americans suffer from a non-healing wound that needs professional medical treatment. A wound that fails to heal is often a sign of an underlying medical condition such as diabetes or vascular disease. And if the wound becomes infected, the concequences can be serious, inclusing amputation.

That’s the reason any wound that does not show signs of healing after 30 days needs to be examined by a medical professional.

If you’re a diabetic, it’s even more important that you follow this advice. Your wounds heal more slowly and can quickly become worse without warning. As a result, the rate of amputation for people with diabetes is 10 times higher than for people without the disease.

Fortunately, our Wound Care Services program provides a comprehensive range of treatment options as well as follow-up care and home visits. So please contact us if the 30-day rule applies to you or someone you know.
